Default The Carnot Cycle!

Search Carnot cycle on Google if you want the details, but essentially, expanding gas (the refrigerant) absorbs heat from the surrounding environment - that is the air passing by. The air gets cold and you get air conditioning! Either that or it's magic, I'm not quite sure.

Most likely cause of AC problems is a refrigerant leak, but it can also be a malfunctining compressor. Probably best to take it to a mechanic who can check it out.

Default what pjorg said. compress gas = hot , expand gas = cold

no gas = nada.
