Torx bit on a cyl head bolt?
The ones on the 10vt and 12v were all 10mm tripple square. The 20v (2.3L) had 12mm tripple square bolt heads. IE, 12pt bit not a 6pt.
Maybe they changed things on the 1.8t, but I doubt it.

Re: you need the special bit....
that fits the head bolts, not sure on the exact size though.
The head bolts are in pretty damn tight so you want to make sure you dont strip it or all hell may be breaking loose.
Also make sure you got the right head bolts as the newer cars use longer and skinnier ones.
Also make sure you dont put the gasket in upside down like I did, nothing worse then doing the headgasket 2x in a row!

There are two types....
the older ones used a triple square socket, which are basically a 12pt Torx, you can get it from Zelenda, part number 3410.
The newer ones are a PolyDrive bit, 6 point bit, part number 3452
There are pictures of the two types in the Bentley manual.

Re: There are two types....
That PolyDrive is called "cheese head" in the fishy...Kinda weird.
M11 x 96 long, 1.5 thread pitch. "Screw, cheese hd." qty 10 came up for both the AEB and ATW...

Re: Not too sure...
I used the one at ATP but its one of those bulky looking torx bits thats prolly 3-4" long. The other end is hex shaped so I put a socket on it to turn it with the breaker bar,and trq wrench.
The 4 head bolts in the corners are sunk in lower and I actually used a allen key as it was the only thing long enough to get in there.
Dont forget to trq it in the right order and the 3 steps in the bentley.

That's the "new style"
It's hard to tell which type you have, since the heads of the bolts are pretty deep in the head.
I ended up buying both bits, which was good for me, the original bolts were triple square, and the head studs I put in required the poly-drive.
