Where would one tap for a mechanical oil pressure gague? TIA, Mike
#5
An electric one would be fine.
I'll qualify my previous remarks by saying that I know more about the fuel pressure gauge than the oil pressure gauge. My oil pressure gauge is electric and I never gave it a second thought.
However, when researching a fuel pressure gauge, I found out that the mechanical gauge actually measures the pressure at the back of the gauge (meaning that fuel runs in the braided line to wherever the gauge is mounted.) Therefore, its a huge hazard to put the gauge in the cabin (would you want fuel in the cabin?). An electrical gauge on the other hand, measures the pressure where you tap it, and uses a wire to transmit the pressure to the gauge.
Hope this helps. Like I said, I only assume that this is true for an oil pressure gauge.
