I have never heard this coming from the engine before. It has an APR (1.8T MY2000) chip, and I have had it for over 3 months and I just noticed this recently. Any help/comments are appreciated.

How to figure out what it is--Hope this helps.
The key is WHEN does it make that sound. It is 3k with or without boost. Can you drive the car real carefully, with very little throttle and low rpms so that it does not make that sound--basically staying off boost? If you can, then you know its either the BPV or a hose and you are leaking boost. When mine went, that is exactly how I knew that it was the BPV, I could drive the car with 4 people in it, but anytime I got anywhere near less than minimum boost amounts, it would "spit". A whooshing sound, however, is not a problem--that is a normal boost sound which is louder than stock when you chip. Ask yourself if the way you drive affects this problem and whether the increase in sound is proportional to your boost level.

interesting...i experience a whistling sound at 3000 but goes away above 3200
this happens on light, moderate, and heavy throttle. what further diagnostics should be done to isolate whether it is a hose or the bpv?

Re: interesting...i experience a whistling sound at 3000 but goes away above 3200
Seems I have a similar problem.
A whine that comes between 3000 and 3200 rpm, and not the normal sweet sound.
Happens no matter what kind of acceleration, the sound seems to fade a little while after engine is warm.
I live in Toronto as well, do you think it has anything to do with the cold weather?

that's what i've attributed it to since it only started in the winter
however, i park my car in a heated garage so the effects of the weather should really affect it. it does happen when i pull the car from the garage.
btw, where did you get the mtm chip? a shop in toronto?

Don't know if I should wait till summer...
Im not sure if I should wait till summer to find out if it goes away. So im gonna borrow a buddy of mines heater and see if it makes a difference. If its just the cold then I guess I can live with slow warm up drives till then. Otherwise I want to get it fixed.
I got the chip through Heimrath Porsche, who got it from Hoppen Motorsports.
