White smoke @ idle..... & a posible S-III/T-28 Hybrid
i recently started seeing some white smoke @ idle, gets progressivly worse as it idles longer, if i rev it up to 2k or the cars under load it goes away
so i checked the motor...... plugs are clean, the motor runs great, no CEL's compression is 180 all across.....
so im thinking its the coolant seal on the turbine side of the turbo is shot, sound reasonable? any other ideas/input?
just so happens that a buddy of mine had a Pre wastegate update S-III GT-25 sittin around in his garage that i picked up tonight, im thinking either just throw my T-28's wastegate on there & see how it runs....or......
another option is to have my T-28 rebuilt as a Ball Bearing unit, possibly using the GT-25's CHRA if its applicable....
i know my T-28 runs fine on S-III software/injectors & MAF, wonder if it works the other way around?
looks like i may have a T-28/S-III hybrid in the works
any input/reccomendations welcome

Disconnect the coolant lines to the turbo...
and either plug them, or connect them together somehow.
If it's still smoking, then it's not your turbo.
Is it a pure white smoke, or does it have a blue tint to it?

I've got a T3/T4 on a T28 chip....
With the exception of my MAF problems, it runs fine. You'll have to run a boost controller though (if you're not already)
If the GT25 is more efficient, then you might end up with it running slightly rich, but other than that, it should work OK.
Won't APR fix the wastegate on the turbo for free? Your wastegate may not be compatible.

forged pistons are known to expand to the normal size...
once they warm up. Perhaps you're getting some oil blow by rings until the pistons warmed up to operating temps. Sounds far fetched, but I've had friend's w/ built bottom ends that would actually "clak" when it's cold because the forged pistons weren't up to the right temps and size. Then as the motor warms up, the pistons fill up nicely and the engine hauls @ss. just a thought~
good luck Charlie!

If it is blowing white smoke it is coolant.
You should see the coolant level falling if you have white smoke. My old jetta blew a head gasket and had the same type of white smoke. It took 2 weeks before i had lowered the coolant to the point where i needed to add, then i changed the gasket.
You would be able to tell on the plugs if it is a head gasket, because it would be lookin steam cleaned instead of tan. Is the oil dip stick covered in mayo at the top?
Most likely it is the turbo from the sounds of the discription.
The gross reason would be at warmup it is just the condensation in the pipe. (LOL) hope not.
