Default Yeah more Wan...s buy scoobies!!!

Most Scoobie owners here in Aust would love to own a Audi, ban't can't affors one..
There are also a few owners of the WRX who traded their WRX in in a Audi.
The New WRX is NOT the performance machine of the previous ones...

Default what a snob

I own an Audi, and I think of buying a WRX.

Your argument is every bit as stupid as the argument that everyone who owns an Audi just couldn't afford a BMW.

Neither is true.

I don't know what country you're from but we didn't have a WRX before this year in the US. Ours is kind of low-powered (for a WRX) at 237 HP. If Subaru dropped the world spec WRX down to 237 that seems a little odd.

Subaru has mentioned the WRX-STi being ready within two years. They even seemed to say it would available in the US. I would hope the 22B would follow soon after.

Default Really....

We have had them here for the past 6Years+.
The Scoobie is approx 35%-45% cheaper than a A4.
Yeah, there are a lot of cars i can't afford, thats why i do have a audi.
Before this current new wrx, they were lighter and a bit more go in the engine.
The earlier ones pulled 13.8 for 1/4 miles straight from the show room floor.
Now they are gettinh into the mid 14's tom high 14's on the newer ones.
Models like the sti and 22b is old news, we had them here for years.
The STI & 22B come with a Alloy Beam Front Suspension & stearing setup, as the normal wrx have only pressed metal components similar to whats under a Hyundai.
So Sti ready in two years...hmmm strange...
Lets also see how Subaru handle warranty claims in the us on modified cars...
Basically here, modified WRX- No warranty....
Aftermarket Muffler voids engine warranty!!!
Good Luck..
P.S. The Scoobie when its two years old or so does start to get a few rattles...
Oh Well you get what you pay for..

P.S. I really hate the Scoobies...

Default Couple points: STi will PROBABLY come to USA, 2001 WRX is 227hp not 237, earlier (m)

models (available in the rest of the world) made 215hp with the STi models and the special editions (like the RB and the 22B, etc) making more, and also costing a bunch more.

In the USA, warranties are much more substantial because of the stricter laws governing fair business (and other reasons). Compare the typical standard warranty on ANY car in America vs the same car in nearly any other country...the coverage is not even close to being as extensive. We also have laws protecting the aftermarket industry, so I don't see MILD mods being a problem (Hell, you can buy them installed at the dealer on the WRX, one of the things that impressed me about it).

As to being a snob...well, I guess I am guilty there, too. Call me crazy, but I think that an economy car interior does NOT belong in a $26,000 car (yes, I KNOW they are a little cheaper, but I priced one with options which would put it close to the BASE equipment level on my A4)...it doesn't matter how fast the damned thing is if it makes me feel like I got ripped off every time a piece of cheesy plastic comes off in my hand.

Don't get me wrong, since you are now getting angry and formulating your response to my post...I LIKE the WRX and I APPLAUD Subaru for (finally) bringing it here. I just think that you should recognize that it is a highly contented economy car, and the A4 is a highly DE-contented sport-luxury car. They are not directly comparable because the FOCUS of each is different (not just the individual trim levels, which is all the WRX and the 1.8t are, but the core vehicle). Well, I will say that you CAN make an A4 as fast as a WRX, but you CAN'T make a WRX as refined as an A4...the bottom line is that they are different animals and neither one is 'better' than the other, it's a matter of taste and priorities.

Take a WRX, put a decent interior in it, put some sound deadening materials in it, increase the refinement of all the bits and what do you get?

A modded A4. 'Nuff said.

Default I don't agree that a WRX is highly contented

And I'm not angry. I don't find the WRX a highly contented car in any way. It isn't supposed to be. Yes, the interior is far inferior to an A4. However I don't feel the interior is poor quality, just cheap looking and ugly. So I don't feel parts will fall off in your hand. Perhaps it would rattle a little after a while though.

If luxury is what you are looking for, you bought the right car. However, to dong the WRX for not being a luxury car is to completely misunderstand what it is about.

For the $24K it costs, you can't touch the performance with an Audi. For about $30K you can, but you're pretty far gone on your Audi (and far from your warranty coverage). The WRX would have a little ways longer to go (IMHO).

Pick your car, A4 and WRX are both good cars. But for different purposes.

Default Here in Oz, there is a significant price difference between a4 and WRX..

WRX commonly known as Pocket Rockets.
Hmm why??? you tell me.
You are looking at about 8-10KUS more for a A4 quattro as opposed to a WRX.
Seens the WRX, and driven them, friends got em, if its a rocket you want without the comfort, finnish & Quality get one.
But the Current new WRX is one Ugly Heavy Car, the previous ones looked far better..and were a lot lighter giving the famed performance, the new weight really bogs it down..
S3 with a Chip will blow it off.

P.S. Lets see how many popped pistons you guys will get over there!!!
