Default Update on my 99.5 Avant and Denso Plugs

Since a number of you responded (thanks guys!), I thought I'd put the update here as the posts in the A4 forum get lost so quickly.

I was running the IK20's in my car. I was running the stock gap as well. When I get the plugs back from the dealer, I will post some pics so you can see what they look like.

The dealer told me the codes were showing random misfires. I will ask them more about this. The stock ECU is in the car now and the dealer has put new plugs in the car (stock). They say the car is running fine now and not throwing any codes but they are test driving it to see if they can get it to act up.

Ok, so once I get the car back, the next test is to see how it responds with the chipped ECU in there. If nothing else turns up, then I suspect the problem may have had something to do with the gap on the plugs, or maybe a bad plug that caused the condition? I don't know but I will return the plugs to Denso for them to inspect.

I will post again when I have more information and some pics of the plugs for you all.

Default Final Update & Denso Pics

The pics themselves don't show anything really conclusive. However, the plug that came out of cylinder 2 that started the misfiring was marked by the tech.

The APR ECU is back in the car, no problems so far.

I would strongly recommend that anyone running these plugs in their chipped A4 first test the actual gap on these plugs. Dingster says that a .028 gap is better for chipped cars with these plugs.

Personally, I'm sticking with the stock Bosch plugs, I've learned my lesson.

Did you end up paying for new plugs?

Default Yes. No warranty coverage.

And it really did look like the plugs caused the problem. Probably a gap problem as the plug in cylinder 2 seemed to start the whole thing with the initial misfires. I suspect the gap was probably off right from the start. Could have been a bad plug too, I don't know.

The stock plugs are working fine. My dealer is chip friendly but strongly recommends against anything other than factory plugs.

Default Thanks for the info...

...I'm running stock programming right now, but I wonder how the higher boost on MY2001 will affect my densos. I haven't put them in yet as I haven't gotten around to it.

Thanks for the update.
