Default Cool! Few Qs pleas

I won't bother posting on the A4 forum since it'll fall off quickly, lol.

Not that I can do anything now with my wedding in less than a month, plus I'm still paying for the recent mods to my GSR =(

For the Cat, are the ID/OD different from stock at the actual openings? The inside looks much more free flowing regardless. Cost? Would it work with a 2000 A4 (DBW issues)?

For the FMIC, cost? I'd need a special chip to deal with the FMIC, right?

Thanks,

FB

Default i believe the openings are 3" in and out, and no problems with DBW..........

you will need a chip from garret bcause of the boost sensor mounted in the IC

also, they are working on this, but the 2000 have a smog pump that must be re-located and the only spot really practical is where the stock airbox is
so you will need a cone intake to free up the room for the pump

personally i have a apr chip and drop in filter in my 2001 a4, ive heard you get a good 30 to 50 ponies out of a fmc, would this be a good idea as a soon to come mod because you seem to know alot more than me? other than the smog pump its a easy mod right? thx

Default Well...

Hi,

The FMIC may allow a little more power from cooler intake charge temps, but probably not. Also, gain may be offset to some extent since there would probably be slightly more pressure loss. The key benefit is that it's much better at keeping the intake charge temp cool, so the car can continue to run at high boost more reliably. To some extent, you may be able to run slightly more boost, but the poor little K03 is already working hard at 1 bar. It's approaching the mechanical limits of what the turbo can provide.

The above refers to the small stock Turbo. With a K04 or a bigger replacement, the extra cooling capabilities of the FMIC would be even more beneficial. Also, with a bigger turbo running more boost, the pressure loss would be less significant.

I think an FMIC is a great mod for reliabilty, if you do a lot of endurance type racing, or if you plan on stepping upto a larger turbo kit in the future...

Thoughts?

Default i agree, i am getting more power. but much less boost

and i am still running with APR, so its not the chip.

with the bigger turbo, boost will be back up where it belongs

even with it in stock mode W/ the IC, its faster than it was in chipped mode with no IC. and it can make consistent power all day, but give the stock IC a few runs and you are making prob making 15-25 less hp (imo)

Default Are you running the FMIC with an APR chip?

I thought the DBWs needed a software fix to run a FMIC.
