I have beer, you have a VAG?

Yes, I do realize how that sounds. :-)

I'm getting misfires at load, and instrument cluster gremlins, possibly related? I thought that cracked coilpack(s) and spark leaking to ground would be a pretty safe bet, but the B5 folks seem to think that I shouldn't jump to conclusions. So... anyone with a vag-com who'd be disposed and available to help me out with a quick scan? I'd greatly appreciate it...

My daily commute is Exton to Bala Cynwyd, but beggars can't be choosers.

Thread on the B5 forum

By the way, if anyone will have a VAG-COM at the GTG and be willing to help me out...

2nd ... when , where ?

Check out the electricals...(battery, alternator, grounds)

voltage issues might cause IC oddities and the coilpack issues.

Good point... how do I go about this? Voltages for both battery and alternator look good...

...but that's all I know.

My old haunt. :-) Went to Haverford College...

First search the S4 forum and find all the ground points...

check them or better, remove the nut, run over the mating surfaces with a little sandpaper to clear oxidation, and then snug down the ground points.

Not sure about the alternator. Basically you need to ensure that the regulator is working properly and not under/overcharging the battery.

Most places that sell batteries can test them fairly easily, and even my little $60 Black & Decker battery charger has a mode to test the battery. Not sure exactly what it does to evaluate performance, as I've never used it for that.
