Default so far this month....I haven't had to repair my car...until today

major repair for the month of December:

Steering rack is now spewing $25 a can power steering fluid out the side of it.

Can anyone venture a guess at the cost to repair?

Follow up question:

Best place to dump an S4 into the Delaware river.

Default rack can be found from $150 used, $300 rebuilt, $850 Dealer rebuilt and $2000+ new...

just make sure it's a proper ZF unit....

As far as install.... it's a bitch!!!!! there is a good writeup in the tech articles... It will require 2 off size universal sockets (i found them on ebay) and will take a full day to do (if all goes well...)

Default Might consider doing the inner tie rods too...

Outers are a little easier to get to...unless they are frozen. So check 'em and get some anti-sieze on them, or replace them too (what the hell, they are cheap after what he's spending on the rack + labor).

If it's any consolation Keith, I started driving the A4 full time in November. So far one issue fixed in November and another dealt with in Dec. Thankfully, mine are a lot cheaper to deal with! I won't count the pothole that bent a wheel, bubbled a tire and possible tweaked a control arm.

Default good thinking Raj...

the last repair I had done....replace all inner and out tie rods. And yes, they were frozen.
