Default Don't get a DSLR unless your serious about the hobby..

DSLR is expensive, despite just the camera purchase. You will spend a lot of money on lens, tripod etc. You have to really think about what your needs are, but that said if your budget is that low I would just get a P&S.

Default 2nd. if it's just a hobby, go with G10 or an equivelant camera

a DSLR will cost you a lot more money since you will need to buy more expensive lenses and accessories.

Default The G10 will probably take better photos.

And if you decide to get into photography and want a DSLR later your would be pissed if bought the samsung. A good point and shoot wouldnt be a waste at all, It would compliment a DSLR if you decided to go that route.

Default I would get the refurb Nikon D40x from Adorama instead...

It's can use a much broader spectrum of lenses should you wish. It's got more pixels. And it's very compact for easy transportablitiy.

http://www.adorama.com/INKD40XR.html</a

Default i beg to differ. there's no way the G10 can take pics like this...

that's an older, rebadged Pentax ist DL

Just take a look at the pictures it can take.

http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/home#section=EXIF-CAMERA&subSection=2030&subSubSection=79825 8&lang

Default think this is a better article

click

it's not that the pentax won't be a great camera or that the G10 is a fantastic camera. it's that the camera will be used as a 'hobby'. in order to make the best of a DSLR, you really need to invest in glass. and doing that makes it a bit more of a hobby, not to mention a bit more of an investment.
