Default Inexpensive is a relative term.

Under $100 is junk. Differentiating between good junk and bad junk is a pointless exercise.

Around $200 you start to get into items that are worthwhile. Of course it also depends on how much weight you expect to put on it. Manfrotto typically offers some good stuff. My rule of thumb is to shop 2x's the amount of weight I'm really going to put on it. Both the tripod legs and the head will have weight capacities to guide you.

Default what is 'inexpensive' to you?

and why does it need to be inexpensive?

but if you are going that route, i would strongly recommend Amvona/Dynatran. you can find them on ebay. i have a carbon fibre model of theirs with a ballhead. lightweight, stable, and easy to use.

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/Dynatran-Pro-PHOTO-CAMERA-TRIPOD-BASE-LEGS-AT-L101T_W0QQitemZ270338169616QQcmdZViewItemQQptZTrip ods_Monopods?hash=item270338169616&_trksid=p3286.c 0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39% 3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50">b ase</a>

they have various types of heads that run about $40-150. for the price, it's hard to beat.

Default My recommendation is not to cheap out. In the long run inexpensive becomes expensive.

Trust me.

Default I disagree with the Amvona...

I have have the carbon fiber model with ballhead, and what started out as a good tripod over time turned into crap. It does not stand the test of time/wear and tear.

Default Well, if you put a 15 lb sandbag on the center column, pointed the camera dead ahead,

and shot wide enough that you could crop to fix the creep, I think you might have a solution there!
