Default Please submit your opinions on the Nikon D40x as a travel camera

My D200 and D700 are just a tad heavy to lug around when I'm traveling. The D40x appears to be highly rated. I also have a D70 which I sometimes carry, and is also fairly light. Is the D40x enough of an improvement in terms of overall photographic quality, noise, low light ability, etc., in order to justify my aquiring one?

Default do you really need a 4th body?

i know the D40x is small, but i don't think it's that big of a difference from the D70 to warrant buying it.

Default Aside from the body. What lens or lenses are you bringing along?

D40x is very light alright but it won't feel the same in your hand in terms of handling.

When you say lug around do you carry lens and body around your neck or in a camera bag?

If I had a D200 I would not go out and buy a D40x for convenience purposes. Photographic quality is down to the user, low light ability down to a fast lens. Noise can always be corrected with the right software.

PS: I have a D80 and neve shoot past 400. Noise is plain bad IMHO

Default walkaround lens is 18-200

I've been using the 50mm 1.8 on my D700 - great lens for the money. I've never really liked the 18-55. Since I usually carry my casio P&S on trips, I'm thinking the D40x with just about any lesn would be better than the casio.

OTOH, I'm also tempted to purchase a Mamiya 645AFD medium format LOL! Man, if I only had oodles and oodles of money!
