Default Spent a few dollars at Adorama.. Picked up a Hoya CP for my 77 lenses, and a new flash...

got the 430EX II, primarily because Adorama said it would rotate 180 in BOTH directions, well, it doesn't.

but it's a really nice flash compared to my old 420EX, which was incredibly basic.

Why did I finally pick up a CP? Not sure, but I think there are some instances where I'd like to be able to control reflections on cars and such, and for other things.

Default I'm telling a coworker to get the 430 II...

He's afraid he might regret it, but he doesn't earn money from it, doesn't need the fast recycle times, doesn't need to light up Giants stadium and doesn't need it to trigger other flashes. Seems to me the 430 should be plenty good, no?

BTW, that pic in your sig of the S5 in front of the Americana Diner...was that on Rt 130 in Hightstown NJ?

Default The 430EXII is a really nice flash. It's got enough controls for the advanced guy..

and it's much better at white balance than my 420EX.

It's got a metal foot, and one touch tilt/swivel. Built in wide angle thing too.

yes, that's the diner. We stay just up the road, in Cranbury, when we go to Waterfest.. Neat place!

Default That rotate issue irritates me to no end. As a tall guy, i like to bounce off the ceiling...

...in portrait all the time, and sometimes i just have to flip the camera since the flash wont point in that one direction.

Other wise...on a good set of recharge-ables i get decent recycle times (unless im shooting at full power).

Default Likewise. I often use my hand on the leading edge of the flash head, to prevent direct flash...

it works really well..

I get tons of pops with my Duracell 2650 rechargeable batteries on the 420EX, I'm looking forward to this new flash.

I'm also happy to have a spare flash for my backup/2nd body. =)

Default Yup! Bar and diner in one! It's one of the better diners in the area.

Good...I don't have any regrets pointing him in that direction then. He's toying with the idea of a used 580 for the same price, but he just doesn't have a need, and there's no way to tell how much it's been used.

Default I have not used mine much, it just arrived this morning, but so far I really like it.

It's no bigger than my 420EX too, it's light, and handsome.

Default Wait, so the 430 II won't rotate to the right for bounced portraits?

If it didn't rotate left, I'd say fine, but not being able to rotate right would be idiotic.

Default It rotates 90 degrees to the right. My 420EX does that too. I was hoping the description was right..

and it rotated 180 to the right as well as the left.
