Default What's the point of owning it if you're not going to bring it with?

Insure it and move on.

Default Friend traveled through Vietnam and Cambodia with his D40 & kit lenses and had no problems.

I've been through 9 European countries and 5 Asian ones with my dSLR equipment and had no problems either.

Do you insure your equipment through your homeowner's? I need to think about insuring my equipment.

Default its fine, just be aware of your surroundings, and dont carry a camera looking bag

i travelled europe and asia with my tenba laptop/camera bag and never had a problem

but i also live in a big city and know how to spot and avoid trouble

and i carry insurance on my gear
