Default Thought these photos were interesting ...

I'd say they were compelling, except that I've no relative measure as to what these car lots would normally look like; it's quite possible they're always this full and the images are nothing more than media hype/propaganda.

Default True

Maybe they should stop making them this year altogether. Seems there's plenty in the pipeline already.

Default Yeah, I'm itching for a new car and there are some great deals to be had ...

... just can't justify spending the cash given the current economic climate. Suppose I can make do with the M3 a while longer.

Default Nah ... that'll be in the house for years to come.

I've told my 9 y/o it'll be his when he turns 16; he says he wants an Audi. Go figure.

Default That's the test track, I'm sure it normally is close to empty....m...

For small car production, the build rate is usually between 40-50 jobs per hour and sometimes more. So in one week, two shifts (9 hours per shift), can build about 3600 cars, and that's straight time only. That picture probably has less than 3600 cars in it, so it represents only a few days' production.

If they are filling the track with cars, that probably means a lot of other parking lots are full.

Scary. Detroit automaker plants were basically shutdown for all of January, as were some Nissan plants, and some Honda truck production, in January. Toyota delayed the start up of the San Antonio truck plant. Crazy times.

Default No doubt the track shot reflects a build up of inventory ...

... and it highlights the inventory costs manufacturers are dealing with right now.

The others are undoubtedly legit representations of swelling unsold stock; my comment was somewhat tongue-in-cheek because some of the "hold lots" I pass (rail drops, regional centers, etc) are always full ... even in times of record sales. So showing a full lot at port doesn't necessarily mean anything on its own.
