Default What's a good camera in the $1500-2000 range (with the additonal lamp)

I have an older digital camera (Kodak Easy-share 6.1MP) and I want to buy something newer.

I looked at some of the bestbuy.com camera's and I got to say that some of them are quite impressive.

What kind of camera should I buy? It does not has to be bestbuy or anything.

I'm in the IL.

It honestly depends on what type of shooting you do and what you want to get out of the camera.

Default Clarify, do you want a DSLR body with flash and pick lenses later

or go with a Kit (Body and lenses at Best Buy?) plus flash.

There are plenty in the price range. You can spend over 1500 on the body only (-:

Price things out at B&H,see what you can come up with.

Default If you have a P&S Easy Share, start off with a APS sized sensor SLR...

Actually you need to decide on which lens system you prefer - Nikon or Canon. Then chose the camera body. You'll likely keep the lenses for a long time while the digital body is essentially disposable every 2-3 years.

BTW, if you're just starting out (if you're coming from a P&S you are just starting out), something like the $279 refurbished Nikon D40 body from Adorama is a great deal. Pair it with the 18-200mm lens and you've got enough horsepower to do a LOT of fine photography. You've spent less than $1k it's quality equipment.

Default Thank you for all the responses. I need a camera that will do

great pictures, aka. pictures of cars, people inside the room or outside, and pictures of people in close-ups.

What is this whole Tripod thing? This pro camera thing is new to me.

Also, what about this cameras:

Is NIKON good? Or stay away?
