Navigation doesn’t know where the car was during driving
I was driving on 75 from Knoxville, Tennessee to Atlanta. I set my home in Atlanta as my destination . Suddenly navigation lost my position and it was showing as off-road on the map.
Even after i cancelled destination, the arrow on the map pointed nowhere.
Didn’t know what happened. However after I drove over 70 miles near border of Georgia, navigation seemed to have located where the car was and was able to show correct position on the map.
Anyone has any ideas?

I'm not entirely sure what generation MMI the Q3 has, but I think it's an older one. This was an issue across the models with the older MMI 3G+ system. There is a hardware flaw that causes GPS reception to crap out. Audi has pushed out firmware updates to mitigate the issue, but the real fix is replacing the 5F module, which is the guts of the whole MMI, with a revised unit. I had this issue in my RS5 as many others did as well. My 5F module was replaced towards the end of 2014 and I had a couple of subsequent firmware updates. It occurred one more time after getting the module replaced, but it hasn't happened anymore since I'm running the latest firmware update which further addressed this issue. Not sure if the Q3 is affected by this issue as well and which years, but generally this occurs if GPS reception drops. At that point the system uses signals from the ECU such as speed, steering angle, direction of travel to approximate the car's position. Eventually, the approximation runs of course, though, if no GPS signal is received from enough satellites to update the car's position for an extended period. There could be other causes for lack of a GPS signal such as a bad antenna or a wiring issue with the antenna. You can check if there is a fault code pointing to a potential issue with the antenna.

I have a 2018 and its happened once or twice. usually fixes itself with a bit of driving. annoying but hasn't happened enough for me to throw a fit. I'm also sure I've had this problem occur on other cars as well.
