I'm assuming this is normal (though completely annoying), but when (for example) I'm in a parking garage with another car or wall in front of me, and I start backing out, the system beeps like crazy to warn me that I'm close to an object, even if there is nothing behind me.

If I'm in reverse, why would it beep to tell me that I'm about to hit an object that's in front of me? Yes, I can look at the screen to see where the beep is coming from, but I generally look behind me when backing up (rather than look at the screen).

Again, I assume this is normal, but wanted to confirm.

This makes a lot of sense; sensors are not only covering what is directly in front of your car but also what is on sides. This way, if you start turning on reverse you can be warned that you can hit something because of car front moving to sides.

Yes, operating as designed, and this is how they work on all Audi's with front and rear sensors.

Please be glad that Audi even equipped the Q5 with parking sensors in the front. They are so useful. The 2009 thru 2016 A4 and the allroad only have rear parking sensors. I wouldn't buy the allroad because they were missing.
