Just an update: They're covering everything 100%! It pays to contact Audi Corporate!

Wow congratulations.That's great news.
Seems like Audi is trying to mimic Toyota/Honda's approach from the 90's - early 2000's.That's smart, and combined with their excellent reliability ratings, acknowledging responsibility for design failures goes a long way to solidifying customer loyalty and increasing the likelyhood of a return customer.
It's often overlooked how remarkably well Audi/VW sales have held up in N.A.despite "dieselgate".Darn good thing too cause they've got to come up with an incredible amount of cash in the near future.

No kidding. We are going through the buy back on the passat and got another one yesterday. It took forever to sign the paperwork because there were 5 customers buying VW's at the same time on Monday evening, after 5 pm... The one we got was very hard to get. Two dealers were fighting for it. It just shows that VW has been doing pretty well so far.

I just experienced somewhat the same issue. 2011 Q5 2.0T was in for oil consumption recall and they replaced a "worn timing chain" while it was in. Now, I have had some "hard starting" issues that don't show up on an independent garage computer. Any ideas?

I wish I could explain the result better, but here is the sequence of events. After the visit to Audi who found nothing to support the "troubling start problem", I took the car to a German Auto Repair Shop (independent) and he could not replicate the grinding start. He said that without an indication on the computer, he would not try anything. I then took it back to Audi (a dealer who I like very much and would always take my business) and left the car for two days while they "tried to replicate the problem". I left there with no certain answers but the problem has never happened again. I have no idea if they did something (and didn't tell me) or if leaving it outdoors in winter cured the beast. The problem has never occurred again. I never contacted Corporate but do continue to read the World Forum.
