Mine has been peeling since the day I got it about 4 months ago. I bought it at 30,000 and had them do the 35k checkup at that point. I noticed it right after that. Today I took it in and made the appointment for the 45k service. Boy - that 11k went by fast! The service writer said it happens on the Q5 because it is the only ones made that way. They also said it happens because of high pressure car washes. I have never taken it through one - not sure about before I owned it. I don't know yet if they will do anything about it. My appointment is next Monday.

The reason it peels is because the trim is painted first, then drilled for the front sensor locations.

I posted a how to a little while ago to safely remove/replace this piece. My suggestion is to buy a new or like new one, paint protection film it and never worry about it for your ownership.

You did this? Did you wrap the film into the holes for the front sensors? Could you post your link(s) and photo after film application.

Dealer told me 'nicely' to pound sand. It is out of warranty. I even called another dealer and they told me the same thing. They both told me the same thing about my annoying sunroof rattle even though there are
TSB's for both items. Too bad - out of warranty. The sunroof TSB can be performed for just under $500 and the grill can be replaced for just under $300. Oh and I was told I need a new battery for $350. I am loosing my affection for my 'new to me' car with 40,000 miles on the clock and needing over $1,100 in work. I didnt need to spend this much on my last Ford or Toyota at twice the miles. I am really not happy. Does Audi really care this little about there consumers or is it just their dealers?

Audi dealers are no worse than many other brands better than many.Just consider the enormous investments they've been forced to make in buildings and equipment. Not optional here in Canada.Audi sets the standards for buildings and lots of equipment and dealer pays.If you want to avoid this $$$ way of keeping your vehicle up to snuff is to find a good independent who's knowledgeable and equipped.Hopefully you're in an area where this exists.Post your general whereabouts and you may get some advice here.
