Default Going from 3.2 to 3.0T

Was thinking about trading in my 3.2 to the new 3.0T soon, beside the increase in torque what has people noticed going from one to the other? Sometimes I think my transmission shifts hard, wonder how the 8 gears on the 3.0T does.

I don't have my Q5 yet, should be here end of March (TDI); however, my friend has the 3.2 that's in the shop for something minor and has the new 3.0 as a loaner. He said that the transmission feels much smoother and likes it better.

Not exactly the Q5 comparison you are looking for but I went from the B8 chassis (A4) w/3.2 6-speed to the C7 A6 3.0T 8-speed. The 3.0T coupled with the 8-speed is a great marriage - smoother, less gear hunting and is more powerful with lots more torque than the old 3.2. I'm very pleased with the significantly noticeable difference between the two combinations. I suspect the TDI 3.0 will also put a grin on your face but they are somewhat different in their approach. You should drive both and see for yourself how they stack up against your 3.2. (Then of course, there's the SQ5 ).

I did exactly this going from my 2011 to 2013. I agree with the other comments. I find the 8spd with the 3.0 extremely smooth in comparison to my 3.2L with the 6 spd. Def a different feel....

I traded my '11 3.2 for a '13 3.0T just over a year ago. Love the 3.0T with the 8 speed - smooth and more fluid. The other refinements from the mid-cycle refresh are great as well. The sport seats, shift lever, wheels and other bits really come across. If you like your 3.2 you'll love the 3.0T.

You guys are making me jealous :-). Love my ride, but the transmission is strange. High RPMs down long hills. Hard shifts when cold...
