Default 2015 TDI Fan Running

So this morning I pulled into work and shut the car off. My electric cooling fan kept running, even though it was like 35 degrees this morning. I went back to the car about 5 minutes later. It was still running. So I started the car and the temperature looked fine so I shut it off. The fan immediately shut off, like normal. I am assuming it is a German electrical gremlin, like all of my German cars have had, but I wanted to see if any of you have experienced this issue before?

Thanks
Thom

Are you sure it wasn’t doing a regen?

Regen is the process of burning off burning off the soot that builds up from burning diesel fuel. It happens more frequently if you do a lot of city driving. It happens when you turn off the car. It sounds like the fans running. It lasts about 10 minutes. If you are doing a lot of highway driving and a good fuel it happens infrequently. If you do a lot of city driving or bad fuel it can happen every few weeks. When your “fans” were running did you smell a slight odor?

I bought it used about 3 weeks ago. I didn't notice the smell. But if it happens again, I will let her run for a while and see what happens. Totally love it by the way.

I have had my TDi for 4.5 years and 88k miles. It’s a great engine. Wonderful torque and mileage. So far she has been bullet proof.

Sounds like you shut it down during the regen cycle. Completely normal.

Precisely. Even though I know what the fan is up to, I still go back outside and check the car in about 10 minutes to make sure fan is off.

Good thing the mirrors turn inwards when car locked, so I can look out window from work to double check that doors are locked: with other cars, my OCD compelled me to leave the building and double check that doors locked....now if Audi would have only connected the fan to a little LED light in the grill........
