2016 SQ5 Oil Consumption
Hi
This is an excellent forum that I have been following for a while.
I got a lovely 2016 sepang blue SQ5 in August last year. Amazing car!
However, after its 5000mile service it has been consuming a lot of oil. So far it has completed 7500miles and I have had to top it up 3 times since its service.
Is this normal?
Appreciate any advice you may have.
Thanks!

I recently traded in a Porsche Cayenne S for a 2016 SQ5 and have been very pleased with this car. The power comes on much quicker, it handles better, looks better and gets much better mileage. It has 30,000 miles and I have driven it about 2,000 miles since purchase. Took a trip to the mountains today and the low oil light alarm came on saying it was a quart low. Stopped and bought a quart and poured the whole quart in. Light went out and carried on. We stopped about 80 miles later to check the level, and now it was saying it had too much oil. Not much we could do, so finished the trip (about 350 miles) and now it says it is OK.
Not a fan of electronic oil level sensors (old school dip sticks are nice) and wondering if this is a sensor error, or is this a common occurrence? I've read all the posts about high oil consumption, but it appears the 2016 models are not experiencing it as bad. Cayenne never used a drop of oil and it was driven pretty hard most of the time.
Any thoughts?.......Thanks

Hi
I kept getting the low oil alert so finally took my car back to the dealer.
They checked and found a faulty oil sensor that they replaced and I haven't had a low oil alert ever since.
May be an option to consider.
Good luck!

From my experience I think all Supercharge & Turbos will consume more oil than a base engine. All of my cars does. Porsche Cayenne turbo, 911 turbo, Mini Cooper S, and Q5 2.0T. Always had to add a quart at least 1200 miles especially the CTT.

The oil sensor is notoriously unreliable. I would highly recommend getting a dipstick. The part number is 06E115611H.
I ordered mine from Europa Parts: Audi Genuine OEM Oil Dipstick (3.0T, 3.2L)

Would this also be the part number for a 2017 3.0T. Do you keep the dipstick in all the time or just use it when manually checking your oil level. I've seen some other dipsticks on-line for the Q5 where they have a footnote saying that the dipstick should not be kept in all the time. Thanks.

Thanks riceboy. Guess it better to be safe and use the dipstick when needed and reinsert the plug when done.

Until you learn the relationship of how much oil you put in and what shows on the gauge put in half as much as you would guess you need.
