Default after changing to new tire, front left Knuckle touch the tire!

Hello everyone,

I have Q5 2013 2.0 Turbo

great car, all wheels are normal until i decided to change all tires, and then found out that the driver side tire is now a hair touching the Knuckle like 0.1 mm or less, tires are all same specification 255/45/20, the old ones was 2 years+ old ..

can't recall any incident, looking at the suspension and all parts seems fine, no crack sign or something..

what do you think? Knuckle bent?

Having the same specs doesn't mean they have the same exact profile. Yes the diameter may be the same but depending on tread design two different branded 255/45/20's could have different contact patch widths and possible rubbing.

I see you are not in US but the US 2.0T didn't come with 20" option not sure about ROW. Are they aftermarket 20" wheels? What are the specs? (width and offset). Could account for what you are seeing.

i suspect the profile as you said, actually it was having different profile that was not official fit to the car.. W105, but then i try to restore the original one which is michelin 255/45/20 W101

and if it wasn't look normal at the front right pass side, i'll say it's the tires, but it only looks closer aka rubbing a bit to the left one

Could also be that is why 20" wheels are not a factory allowed spec for that model? And you just got lucky the first time around?

The upcoming Season of Audi Q5 2.0T will have a 20" wheel option, so they do fit. Not sure what the tire size will be though.

IIRC in the US our Q5's are modified and actually part of Audi's "truck" fleet, in order to boost their EPA fleet mpg numbers. That modification for the US market is supposed to include an extra 1-1/2"(?) of ground clearance, so tire fitment probably will vary as compared to the EU and possibly other geographies. FWIW.

Audi would be the fastest source to find out if those tires and wheels are known to work, or not, for that vehicle.

What is the new tire models? Also, maybe you should try to swap left and right wheels. You will know if the problem is the tire or the suspension.
