Am I going crazy? Seat options....
 

Looking at the audiiusa site to build an SQ5 and the seat options are gone? Nothing except black/alcantara to pick from. Anybody know something I don't.

Also, I've noticed 2 different backseat headrests. Is it the "low" center headrests for all three seats or 2 higher and 1 lower? Or is it up to "whatever" they have around the day your sq5 gets built?

Yes, that's strange... I'm getting black leather/alcantara only too. Maybe some hiccup with their website, which isn't unusual.

As for the headrests, another forum member took delivery of an monsoon SQ5 (look for his thread) and all 3 of his rear seat headrests are the compact (lower) type, while several of us with other 2014 SQ5 and Q5's including myself have only the center compact with the outer headrests are regular. Doesn't seem to be related to any option or package. Odd.

The SQ5 build on audiusa.com is behaving the same way for me too - no interior color options beyond black/alcantra.

I've no idea what the story is with the rear seat headrests. As I posted earlier today, mine are raised on the outboard seats. Rear visibility is just fine. I must admit that I prefer the looks of the lower headrests (per wrcardon's pics) but I wonder how comfortable they are for rear seat passengers unless they're raised?

Let’s not forget the true function of the head"rest" which is to keep your head from ending up in the back of the car in the case of an accident. Obviously Audi has thought this through but I would make sure your passenger’s heads really do "rest" against them, just to be safe :)

I see too many people who have completely removed their headrests to make the car look better or for better visibility and it makes me cringe every time I see it!

I would imagine that those headrests would have to be raised just to sit there. It would probably hit your neck at the wrong position and be necessary to raise to ride there comfortably. But I do like the look and the less obstructive view.

Have we confirmed whether this is a function of the rear air bags option?

Here are my rear headrests. 2014 SQ5 prestige, black/lunar nappa, driver assist, no rear airbags

Other than improved visibility, another good thing about the compact headrest is that you can tuck the upper flap of the child seat protector behind the portion of the headrest that overlaps, holding it in place (as shown below).

It's so strange that mine are all the compact type. I prefer them and was always searching eBay to buy compact ones in my old 2012 Q5... I think this is how the Euro Spec ones come... not sure.

Regardless. If there is a passenger in the rear seat, you just move them up to accommodate them or just leave them up. They look pretty cool up to, but you obviously lose some visibility. I prefer the compact because I don't have passengers in the rear too often (single w/o kids). And when I do I can accommodate them very easily.

Moreover, they allow for the rear seats to drop down when the front seats are all the way back. Which in my 2012 had an issue with rubbing if the front seats were all the way back with a tall passenger.

I'll has to do some more research on my car. I didn't order it; my dealer found it at a LA based dealership and traded for it so I could purchase it.
