Default Antifreeze smell in 2016 SQ5

I've got 31k miles on the odometer. Two days ago I started smelling antifreeze in the engine bay. The smell hasn't made it into the cabin. The coolant level is fine, and there is no drip spots under the car. Whatever it is it's small. Anyone have a similar issue and what was the fix? I'm thinking thermostat or bad radiator cap, but with such low miles???

Was there anything different about your driving recently, like a long trip, extended idling, etc. that might have gotten the engine temp up? Antifreeze will expand when it gets hot. There's an overflow tube which will allow excess to escape which might cause the smell. Was antifreeze topped off recently in prep for winter? Maybe they put in too much. Hopefully that's your explanation versus a defective part.

No long trips and no excessive beatings. Temp has been steady at warm (middle of temp gauge). I did have the coolant flushed a few weeks ago so maybe they put too much in. I didn't smell it till a day or two ago, but then again it Was super cold in NY.

That would be my guess. If the current level is right on, I wouldn't worry about it until I smelled it again. For a new Audi, why did you have the coolant flushed? Audi's maintenance schedule doesn't show a flush as necessary.

I'll monitor it for a couple more weeks and then see if I'll make the trip to the dealer.

I got it CPO in August. I did it cause Im skeptical about if it was really the actual mileage, was it beaten to death etc Lol. Just wanted to make sure everything was fresh.

Love this SUV btw. Such an awesome vehicle. 🤘🏼

Try and see if the MKI discussion can help they have the same 3.0 Supercharged engine as you have and are much more active in the forums. I liked the audizine forum better. https://www.audizine.com/forum/forum....php/163-B8-S4

Hopefully this is just a case of being overfilled. Not sure if they systems are the same but on a previous Honda I had with a blown head gasket, the sweet smell of burnt coolant was the first sign of the gasket failure

I have a 2016 3L Q5 that had a water pump replaced during the 35k service because of a leak. Shocked me that is failed so early.

I brought it to the dealer. Water pump went bad. I thought it was really strange considering I've only got 32k miles. I was told that it has been an issue on the 3.0 motors. Good thing it's under warranty

FWIW I made it to 63000 miles before the water pump started leaking on my 2014 SQ5. I still think that is too early for failure. I had them do the thermostat too since they were already under the supercharger for a failed PCV shutoff valve.
