Default Audi 2015 Q5 Oil around head gasket area

Hi everyone

Yesterday my 2015 Q5 came up with a low oil light, its due for service in a few weeks.

The GF took it in today, and the technicians had the nerve to tell her its all normal "A bunch of crap about turbo engines use up the oil that quick and its normal) car was serviced 6 months ago

Checking under the hood today my self, and i cant help but notice oil around the head gasket are on the block, and it seems to have been slowly leaking as i can see it all down the sides.

Im thinking this is most difinitely not normal?

Interested to hear what you all think

Mike

Interesting. We have a 2018 Q5 with 30K miles on it and is doing the same thing. Ours is also leaking coolant (3 liters in 30K miles) at the thermostat area, and is still under warranty but dealer (Willsonville Audi) says it has to leave drips on the ground before Audi will do any warranty repairs. I have been a technician for 40 years and once a MLS head gasket starts to leak it will just get worst. We will have it paid off by the end of this year and probably will be trading it in, and will not on a Audi next time.

Gearhead any tech that goes by what's seen on the ground under an Audi is to be avoided. There's a giant diaper attached to the belly pan that can absorb a lot of leaking fluids.Time for a new dealer.

My 2015 looks the same too. It does not appear to be enough oil to make any kind of change in the level. My car after about 5-6mths registers about half way on the oil level meter. My indy mechanic (audi specialist) says that if you listen carefully enough you can hear an audi leaking! Its a joke but also somewhat true. Your pics appear to be a weep and not a leak. Audi will fix a leak but a weep is considered normal.

This is a 2009 2.0T, former oil burner, fixed by my local Audi in December 2015, engine was never cleaned since then. I service the car every ~7,500km at the dealer, it "burns" around 600-700cm3 between services, no need to to up though. Mechanic also said it's weep and not a leak. Last time I had a leak it was a blown RMS caused by a faulty PCV valve, it was very noticeable, a few drops left in my parking garage every night.

Yes I would agree with the assessment that this qualifies as "weappage". If it was mine I'd pay a little more attention to oil consumption. And make sure to use a really good oil.I've had real success with Lubro Moly stuff in my last 2 high mileage Audis.Lost confidence in Castrol years back. They play with the terminology permitted in different markets. Many of their "synthetics" aren't really in the rest of the world !

My Q turned 100K km the other day. It’s 10 years old now so it’s about time to start servicing it at my Indy rather than at the dealer, that means I can choose what oil to pour, so far she’s only sip Castrol Edge 5w40, but I’m considering switching to Molygen and give the engine bay a good wipe, then get myself an UV light and see how it goes. I was also planning to pour some Ceratec in the next oil change, that stuff worked like a charm in my old Jetta GLI.
