Default Audi Care and Replacing the Engine Air Filter

I have a 2015 Q5 3.0T and just got it back from the dealer after having the 15k service performed using Audi Care. When I got home I checked the ENGINE air filter and found it to be filthy. I cleaned it the best I could then promptly called my service rep to inquire about it. He told me that Audi recommends it be changed every 55k miles. WHAT!!!??? I've been driving for over 30 years and have never gone more than 15k miles without replacing an air filter.

Is he for real?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Yeah, some of the air filter change intervals are long. OTOH, I've witnessed cases where the filter still looks new at 30k miles and clearly don't need to be changed. Maybe you are going to need to take it upon yourself to change annually, if needed.

Also, grab the service requirements at the AoA website for your vehicle and verify what needs to be done at each interval.

Thanks. It's certainly not an easy process...at least not as easy as all of the luxury Japanese cars I've had. This is my first European car and will probably be my last. I will be picking up a new filter today.

Yeah, the air filters on some of the models are a nightmare.

Don't overlook the "snow screen". I think most of the models have them and it acts as a pre-filter for the air filter and is located upstream. That little screen needs to be checked often.

Yes, I noticed that in there but didn't remove it. I will check it when I put in the new filter. Thanks!

It's usually e-z to remove/wash/replace. I've seen situations on other VAG cars where it isn't checked/cleaned for years and it completely blocks air flow.

Will this probably be your last Euro car because of a dirty air filter?
