Default AudiCare and Wiper Replacement

My Q5 is still under its original warranty at 45k miles and I have AudiCare for it. I brought it in to the dealer's service department for the 45k miles maintenance which is the last service covered, and was told that I needed a rear wiper, which I already knew as it had been scraping the glass back there for some time. They replaced the wiper, but charged me $20 for the part. Does this sound right? The 45k mile maintenance is supposed to cover ("check and replace") wipers, but the service advisor tells me that this doesn't include the part itself. Can anyone confirm that this is true? Now $20 isn't a lot, but I'm curious..

Yes you would get charged for the parts and work on the wear items. I think brakes would be the classic example.

Wipers are wear and tear so they will not be covered by a scheduled maintenance plan, just like tires or brakes.

Now if the wiper was defective from the factory and was not working properly from the get go, then it would qualify for a warranty replacement. One of our front wipers got replaced under warranty because it was chattering right from the start.

BMW and Lincoln used to replace wipers on their lease programs, part of the "no other expenses" sales pitch. But generally, no one replaces consumable parts under warranty. The wiper arms (all of them) are actually very quick & easy to replace on the Q5.

seems pretty odd to me. We 'Pay' for Audi Care which should cover the parts and labor on covered items. If they list wipers, they should cover wipers parts and labor (like they cover the oil and oil filter).

My dealer would make you pay for the part....but install for free.

My BMW always got new wipers for free.

Audi Care Booklet does list:
- Wiper Blades / check condition and replace if necessary*

But then there is a footnote next to it that states:
*Replacement parts and labor additional. See dealer for details.

Yeah, they'll check them but charge for replacement. Same thing with all wear items. Not too may manufacturers will cover wear items.

okay, thanks everyone. I also needed to know because I was considering extending AudiCare (for the 55k and 65k maintenances) for this vehicle and wanted to know what was included. So aside from the oil changes, it seems that all they do is check a bunch of stuff. It seems not worth the $410 (combined $820) for each of the two services it would cover.
