Default AudiConnect 2G only

Hello all! I am a new Audi owner, CPO 2013 Q5 Premier Plus 2.0T with the MMI + pkg. I have a question about Audi connect. I am in an area where T-Mobile has shut down their 3G network(Sacramento). I would like to try the service out and have read there is a module upgrade that fixes the issue. Who do I contact for this upgrade and I am also an ATT Cell customer and would like to use them instead of T-Mobile. Is this possible and how would I go about it. Thanks for any help in this convoluted matter! I love the Q5!!

T-Mobile didn't shut down their 3G network. They just moved frequencies, but the cellular radio in your 2013 doesn't support the new frequencies. You have to make an appointment with the dealer. They'll replace the cellular radio with an updated one that supports those frequencies and restores the 3G signal and also supports the faster HSPA/HSPA+ networks. Once you have the new radio, you can also switch to AT&T by calling the Audi Connect customer support line. The number is on audiusa.com.

I've used AT&T on my family share plan, $10 a month. But recently switched to H2O Wireless; you get 100MB of data for $10 and expires after 90 days. I use very little data so, $3.33 a month is all I spend. If I used the MMI as a Hot Spot more often I would have kept AT&T. Also, H2O wireless uses AT&T's backbone, so you get the same coverage as AT&T.

I simply put an activated SIM into my car with no involvement with Audi. Works like a charm.

It’s a region specific bug, Indiana and a couple of other states if I remember right.

It's not a bug. See superswiss' recent post. T-Mobile will be rolling out the new 3G band to all the U.S. eventually.

^ Not a bug? Then why is Audi replacing, under warranty, 2G boards for T-mobile users in certain states?

Because T-Mobile is upgrading their network and the old cellular radios are no longer compatible. That's not a bug, that's obsoletion.

Correct. I had ours replaced shortly after the upgrade was announced. Got a letter from both Aud I and T Mobile w/info and instructions.

Misnomer. And it wasn't obsolescence but a compatibility problem they hadn't planned on.

Anyway, Audi is assisting and fixing it.
