Q5 wheel bolt help
Hi,
I got a set of these Audi Q5 8x17" ET39 wheels on the cheap. These are forged wheels, 10.1 kg. And they are probably nice and round as they've been run with 235/65-17 for the Q5. I've fitted 225/45-17 on them for use on my C4.
Now, I need to get wheel bolts that fits. My car has M14 x 1,5 x 27 mm conical seat. According to the internet, Q5 wheel bolts are ball seat R14. Can anyone confirm this?
M14 x 1,5 x 45 mm according to my dealer (which cannot confirm if they are R14 or not...). I put my 27 mm length bolt through the wheel and the length is more than enough, as it protrudes 21 mm which is 3 mm more than they do on the wheels I actually use the bolts for.
I have a set of VW T5 bolts on hand - M14 x 1,5 x 35 mm with ball seat R14. They even have the rotating seat. But the heads are 19 mm... are the heads on Q5 bolts 19 mm or 17 mm? My concern is that I may not be able to fit the center cap....
Thank you!

So apparently the Q5 has R14 ball seat with 17 mm head.
I wonder if the centre cap will allow for 19 mm head... A few Q7 wheels use a very similar looking centre cap. Would be interesting to find out if the Q7 and Q5 have different part numbers for the wheel centre cap!

Totally different wheel cap:
- Q5 8R0601165 for 17"
- Q7 4L0601165D

Yes, the OEM Q5 wheel has a R14 radius head, the same as the Touareg or Q7. The bolt length is also 30mm, vs 27mm for the other Audi's. The 19mm bolt head will fit under the caps, that is not a problem.
You really have 2 choices if you want to make this easy.
Buy a set of Porsche bolts 14mm x 1.5 x 27mm with the R14 head from a Porsche parts seller or contact Achtuning as they stock the part. The other thing you can do is do a stud conversion and use the R14 nuts instead of the R13 nuts.

OK. That is good news
I live in Norway, so buying from a supplier abroad often comes out expensive with shipping fees some times as expensive as the item itself, plus 25% import tax on the item & shipping fee!
It turns out those VW T5 bolts are M14x1,5x30/66 R14 ball seat 19 mm w/ floating washer. Nearly perfect for my application. A new set of these on eBay would cost me 95+ EUR. Luckily I can get a second hand set locally for 18 EUR.
Appreciate the help.

Just make sure the 30mm long bolts don't hit anything inside your hub. Other Audi's use only 27mm bolts, those extra 3mm can make a difference of hitting stuff.

There is also a difference in the radius of the ball cone. I have taken pictures for comparison purposes. If the part you listed is actually 45mm long on the thread side it will not fit, unless you are running spacers.
If you are fitting custom wheels (meaning wheels to your car that didn't come on them), you will want bolts long enough to have 7-9 threads going into the hub, but you also have to make sure that you don't go too deep or you will have problems with the hub locking up.
One other way you can solve all these problems is to do a stud conversion, that way you can change the lug nuts from R13 to R14 or even conicals depending on what wheels you are putting on and don't have to invest a fortune in lug bolts. Pay once for the stud and lugnuts are a lot cheaper than bolts.
Here is a picture of a stock SQ5 lug bolt, clearly 30mm in length:
Here is a picture comparing the different ball radius.
Silver lug nut on the left is R13 - common on most Audi's
Black nut in the middle is R14 - Q5 & SQ5, also Touareg and most Porsche
Lug nut on the right, OEM for SQ5 with R14 ball, 30mm long

You are showing steel and black nuts, I called Audi to order black Q5 bolts but they said they don't sell them in black. Anyone know where we can get standard bolts in black?
