Default Brakes replacement

I have a 2013 Q5 Premium with 72k on the original brakes that are starting to get soft and chatter at times. The dealership wants $1300 for just the fronts. I obtained a quote from a local german auto repair shop for $1400 for all four rotors/discs, sensor and OEM. Does that seem like a good price? Thanks

$1,400 still seems high. SQ5 fronts are very pricey but a regular Q5 shouldn't be bad. Brakes are easy to change, you don't want to do them yourself? Aftermarket should also be even cheaper and give similar performance.

Yes if you buy quality parts, european, you can equal or beat Oem for approx.$700 thats Canajun +-3 hours labour for a really thorough job and your bumping up on 1K.but you'll probably get the same 75k miles use and that's not bad for a superior braking system.

Just paid $310 for Audi original front rotors and pads (with sensor), local dealership will charge me $200 for labor and eventual fluid top up. However, I bought the parts online since dealer originally asked me for $1,000 for parts + labor.

Did you ask them to debrief the quote (parts vs labor)? It’s pretty likely that they are charging you way to much for the parts, ask them if you can bring your own parts.

Good luck!

Thanks. This front came in at $405, $310 for the rear, and $75 for the sensor. They quoted 5.80 hours, $238fr/$255rear. And $102 NYS tax.

Great suggestion. Thank you.

Not sure about rears, but fronts are an "easy" job, no more than 1hr. You can save some cash bringing in your own parts, Audi dealers are usually keen on installing them as long as you bring in original parts. Did you ask them if that's an option?

Did a set of brakes many years ago on a TR7. That cured me. Thanks.

figure parts should be $100 for each pair of pads OEM. plus $100 for each rotor. I'd say parts front and rear depending on your Q5 should be $600-$700. labor should be no more than 4 hours. Audi dealer will charge close to $150 an hour, an indy should be closer to $100.

Personally, i save the labor cost and do it myself. Brakes are so easy to do.
