Default Brand New Q5 Torque Converter and Mechatronic Issues

Hello Fellow Audi Owners,

This is my first posting on this forum. I would like a little advice as to what we should about our 2012 Q5.

We took the delivery of the Q5 on September 24th and a week later the MIL Illuminated took it to the dealer right away. They first said it needs the Torque Converted replaced, that didn't resolve the issue so they contacted Audi engineering they suggested replacing the Mechatronic unit I am waiting for that to be replaced hopefully it will be done by October 10th.

At this point do we have the option to ask Audi for a replacement? or is their any other options we should consider.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Welcome aboard!

I think they need to replace that component...should not be a big deal.

Is the unit not in the country? Is that the reason for the delay?

Thank you for your response.

The unit is available it's being shipped today. My concern is in regards to quality of the product brand new car and yet it has issues already.

That's what warranty is for. A single bad component doesn't mean anything, even though it can be unsettling.

Audi just replaced my entire transmission, after replacing the mechatronic unit first. They never actually diagnosed my issue (MIL never lit for me). I noticed a very sudden and rough downshift while decelerating at low speed. They had the vehicle a total of 25 days, I bought the vehicle August 4th. They're very close to lemon status here in AZ already, and new vehicle protection lasts 2yrs/24k (just rolled over 2500 miles). It's going to be up to them on whether or not they want to roll the dice that I'll never have another tranny issue... AoA is calling me back tomorrow.

If they replace my vehicle, all is forgiven. If I ever have another issue or they don't subsequently replace the vehicle, they seriously risk my future business (this is my 3rd Audi vehicle). Honestly, if they had properly diagnosed the issue, and if the mechatronic unit had fixed it, I would have moved on, but I feel this has already been a substandard ownership experience and they ought to make it right. Others will feel differently. But it doesn't hurt to call. 1 800 FOR AUDI.

You are responding to a 4-year-old thread.

Who are you asking? The OP or AUDIIOS? The OP had a 2012 Q5 3.2, which would have had a 6-speed trans.
