Most of us on the RS forum look at carbon cleaning as the way we use to look at a timing belt change. Part of the routine maintenance,

All true but a carbon clean on an RS4 requires intake manifold R&R. On the Q5, it's engine and transmission R&R. For me, pulling the engine/transmission every 40K miles is not what I would call routine maintenance.

Does the 3.0T have the carbon issues too?

Haven't heard of any issues. The 3.0T has be available for almost 4 years now (debut was the MY2009 A6), and I've only seen one picture of a pulled cylinder head which had some carbon build-up. I wouldn't doubt that we will see some carbon problems down the road with higher mileage vehicles, but the 3.0T appears less prone than either the 4.2 or 3.2.

The forum was better way back when. But it still has its uses. And if you don't like it, don't use it. There are better things to do I'm sure.

Back to topic. This is going to return no matter what. I'm going to be quite sad when I see loads of the straight-bodied V6 Q5s head into the pick-a-parts as they age and turn into a money pit. I'd still go out and buy a new one when it gets replaced though. This is otherwise a great little SUV.

Buh bye!

The only way to solve it is for an engine intake redesign to include some port injection in the DFI scheme to rinse the intake rail. Are the redesigned Audi engines doing this? The US market won't see the new 2.0T until 2014. Is this problem solved in the 3.0T?

Over time, this issue is going to crush Audi resale values as cars with this defect advance in mileage and enter the pre-owned market. Really, who would buy a pre-owned car with these engines - they have to sell them to uninformed buyers.

What's the status on the current 2.0T engines? Has anyone with this engine undergone carbon buildup repairs? If so, mileage, cost, etc?

+1.

I hear you Coolieman, a bunch of know-it-alls.

Wife wants to trade in the Q for Cayenne Sport.

I've left, and only occasionally drop in cause we still have the Q. But I'm mostly at the A5/S5 forum, drop by and take a look at pictures I've posted of my S5. Awesome baby!!
