The best thing you can do when trying to take lugs off is get a long galvanized steel pipe (or equivalent) and slip it over the wrench handle to give yourself tremendous torque. It makes taking off the tightest lugs a piece of cake.

Don't forget to tell the TPMS system that you've performed a wheel change. I do thos through the nav system CAR/SETUP IIRC.

Got my first torque wrench this weekend:

Now I need a socket. Do I need a deep socket for this job?

Thanks for all the tips guys.

Yes, you need a deep socket. I use Craftsman 6-point impact sockets.

[QUOTE=HaveBullDogWillTravel;24278339]

Be sure to step-torque(I use 3 steps 35-65-105) the lug bolts.

So the proper torque for Q5 lug bolts are 105 lbs? That seems pretty high compared to my previous A4 and wife's CR-V.

17 mm socket seems to fit.

I'll check the torque in the manual and post it here.

It's a SUV with heavier wheels

I did a write up on the wheels change: https://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel64.shtml
