I just came across this website (http://www.tradetang.com/wholesale+headrest+dvd.html) so I figured I'd open this old thread.
Has anyone tried using one of these cheaper headrest DVD systems?
Or anything from Amazon? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no..._1.6_73&fsc=-1

Here's the specs on the DVD Headrests I'm running in my Q
Made by Invision, SL Series...
SL Series - Headrest - Rear Seat Entertainment | INViSiON Industries
My Photography skills leave something to be desired, but here are the pics nonetheless. They are much brighter in the car, I had to turn the flash off to get these shots and I'm not proficient enough with my camera to know how to compensate for the low light level. I did lighten the photos with Photoshop as the pics make the inside of the car look much darker than it is. The passenger seat is at a different angle and I did not adjust the screen pitch to compensate so it will look a bit different.
The picture quality is what I would call "Good" It's no plasma but it will do nicely on a long trip. No issues or complaints yet from the passengers...
The remotes and Headphones... Both are interchangeable so you can choose which headrest you want them to work with the push of a button.
Movies playing in this post are as follows...
Finding Nemo - Driver Headrest
Incredibles - Audi MMI Screen
Shrek - Passenger Headrest
Separate DVD's (All 3 playing different movies)
Slaved...
Close Ups...
The DVD Cases are reflecting sunlight onto the screen and back of the seat, but I don't have the time to retake the pic.

Sorry to open up such an old thread, but 2 questions:
1. Has anyone purchased and installed one of the cheap headrest dvd units available on Amazon and other websites? If so, how do you like it?
2. How easy is it to self-install these units? I see that they all tend to have electrical wires coming out the bottom of the headrest mounts (the metal poles). I was actually hoping for something less complicated that would simply plug into the rear outlet (same way my portable dvd plugs in). I don't want to start messing with (or pay a professional to mess with) the electronics of the car. I tend to have bad luck with stuff like that and would prefer to just plug it to the outlet (I don't care if that means a cable is always hanging out.
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

I was looking at the following to install myself:
[edit: corrected model and link to the touchscreen version]
Concept CLT-700X

Bestbuy had the cheaper non-touchscreen version at one point and then one day recently they are no longer listed.

I don't know about you john1r, but I decided that a more practical and modern approach will be to buy an android tablet and a headrest mount system. It would be a little more costlier, but will have alot more entertainment value for my kid. My kid can now play games on my android phone, so it will serve as an all out entertainment system in the car.
- The touchscreen DVD headrest was about $230, and required an installation process that I had many concerns about. Or pay a guy $200 to install it for me. Limited to playing DVDs, CDs, SD media formats.
- For less then $400, I have a sleeker looking all out media player. My kid can play games on it on a 10.1 or 7" high resolution display. I can tether internet access to it from my phone if an adult wants to use it. I already own a ton of Android kids games that my kid likes to play so this was an easy decision.
- iPads are a bit expensive and the iPad3 is expected in 2012, so I rather buy cheaper now and have the option to upgrade then.
- The Android Icecream sandwich version is coming in a few months, so I opted for a cheap tablet to hold me over until I decide on whether to get an iPad3 or a newer more expensive Android Tablet.
Looking at these sub $400 options
- All have an SD slot
- All can run the latest Android Honeycomb OS
- All have a 1Gig processor or higher. (Gotta be as fast as my phone. Right?)
