Euro-spec springs only
A guy on another forum ordered euro spec springs for his SQ5. According the ETKA, euro spec SQ5 also have different shocks front and rear but his distributor told him that only the front were different/needed. Since the guy say that his SQ5 ride exactly as before while keeping the stock rear shocks, I'm wondering if shocks need to be changed at all.
When you put shorter springs, why it could be necessary to also replace shocks. I imagine, that shock travel won't be a problem, right? I also imagine that shorter springs are somewhat stiffer... So maybe you need a shock with more dampening? What would be the effect of not having enough dampening? Suspension will be less harsh and more bumpier? |
Also, if changing only springs, will it be better to keep stock bump stops or use euro spec (shorter) ones?

Shocks are designed to work a specific range of movement. Lower springs require a similar range of movement but at a shorter length. The original longer shock used with a shorter spring may bottom out causing a clunk and ultimately destroying itself. Also the longer end of the shock range will left be unused.
You should change the bump stops also. |
