Default Fuel system delivery problem P3045 P3044 P0087

Well, story started 2 weeks ago when car lost power and died after passing stop sign. I was able to start the engine and come home. Trouble codes scanned with vag-com:
4732 - Fuel Pump
P3045 00 [047] - Electronics Defective
4735 - Fuel Pump
P3044 00 [036] - Short Circuit
2838 - Fuel Rail/System Pressure
P0087 00 [096] - Too Low
I searched on the internet and almost everything pointed to the bad fuel pump. Ordered new pump(from Portland US) took forever to get it. Installed the pump Wednesday night and did test run for 20 km.
Thursday morning (cold weather -10 Celsius) car started and after 10 sec battery died( pump also) and car couldn't start. Yesterday installed a new battery from costco 129$ (dealer =320$) and car ran without problem. Today again hesitation after stop sign but just for 5 sec. and I was able to drive home. Scanned again and same 3 codes again. I removed high pressure pump from the engine and checked cam follower and everything looks OK. I am thinking that P0087 is related to fuel pump control module. That is the next step that I want to do. I will order a new control module. Anyone has ideas what else to check?

Make sure you adapt the battery control module.

Yes of course, I coded the battery. Just to say for people who wants to change battery, you don`t need the backup source to connect your car.
You have to adjust the digital clock after and all other settings are untouched.

Our Audis, a '14 TDI and an '11 A4 ate fuel pumps last year. The TDI had its replaced at 45K and the A4 about near the same mileage. Nothing to do with the op but just sayin'.

Per the code, I would check the fuel rail pressure directly. It seems like you assume the only reason for an HPFP failure would be a worn cam follower. Besides the scenario where it is the cam itself that is worn, what about the pump and any of its internals? Worn cams happen with HPFP's in some Audi's/VW's from what I understand, and certainly a high pressure fuel pump has internal parts that could give out. Personally, the control module seems unlikely to me. ECU or even crank sensor maybe; all seem less likely than staying focused on fuel pressure with a still unreplaced HPFP.

As you can see per pictures that I attached, I checked HPFP and cam follower and it looks OK. Would bad HPFP give p3045 and 3044?
Mine looks like #4

I'll try again: cam follower does not equal cam, nor does it equal any internal part to the fuel pump. I think that you assume the only possible problem to the whole pump is the cam follower. I haven't researched, but seems like a stretch that would be the only possible issue with them. They have been failing for years on VW motors IIRC, so you could look at posts across a variety of VW and Audi FSI motors. I vaguely recall there may even be a TSB on some of them that can point at worn cam lobe.

I don't know on specific codes, and folks on boards don't usually have those memorized. For those, besides general web searches have you looked at the RossTech Wiki for common solutions tied to those codes? You don't say what motor is in your Q5 (I was guessing 2.0T), but again figure you can look across to all the other VW and Audi models that use the same general motor.

I would lean towards a fuel pump control module..............

It is around 100 $ so I will give it a try. I will call Audi service tomorrow just to compare the price.
