Default High fuel consumption: 2015 Q5 3.0T

Hi All,

I purchased a 2015 Q5 Premium Plus 3.0T with ~48,300 miles from an Audi dealership 2 weeks ago. I left the dealership with a full tank of gas and logged about 180 miles with 1/4 tank remaining. I filled up with supreme gas and logged about 205 miles with an 1/8 tank left. I understand the estimated city mpg is 18 and hwy is 26 but I'm averaging a whopping 12mpg. I'd say I was driving 55% hwy and 45% city and at a regular pace (not heavy footing it or speeding much). Even if I estimate 15mpg city at worse case, with a 20 gallon tank, I should at least be getting 300mpg at a minimum.

I'm planning on taking it to a dealership next chance I get seeing that I have about ~1200 miles left before factory warrant expires. I'm new to this, but would this car fall under any NJ Lemon Laws?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

First, you need to fill up your tank completely, set your odometer to zero, drive the Q5 as you normally do until you have about a quarter tank left, fill up the tank completely, record the number of gallons put in at the pump, divide the odometer reading by those number of gallons. That is the real world actual gas mileage. Guessing at MPG looking at the gas gauge levels is not accurate at all. You live in cold county you are burning the "winter blend" of gas, that alone could drop your mileage by 2-3 MPG. Also cold temperatures make an engine run rich, you burn more gas.

No that doesn't qualify under the lemon law, nothing wrong, nothing broke. Plus you bought a used vehicle that doesn't come under the lemon law either.

You need to do what Bob said. I get about 17.5 mpg, and this is over all the fill ups I've had since I bought the car, which is ~18k miles. I drive a mix of hwy and city like you do. I know some people on here get that 26 or even better on the highway, but the best I've ever managed is 20 mpg.

We did get around 26 mpg once, but that was with some really grandma-ish driving on the hwy, doing about 65 mph. Our typical average is around 18 mpg. My fuelly log shows something a bit higher, but I have not been consistent with logging the fuel-ups since it's my wife's vehicle.

You calling me grandma?
I'm not bouncing it off the limiter but I do have some fun. Never in a rush driving to work though. On the way home though...

Man you guy's have some nice machines but I'm cheap/drive a lot and those numbers make me think about my 5.0L Mustang, so I.m really glad I went Tdi.Now if they'd bring the SQ5 Tdi here, could happen in Canada under Ceta. It's a serious beast.Check it out and drool.
