Default How many sets of tires have you gone through in your SQ5?

Just like what the title says, with limited selection in tires on the 21'', I am on my third set of summer tires since new. That's on top of two sets of winter tires.

Here are the orders:

1) Pirelli P Zero (from factory)
2) Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1 (ran two winters; didn't like it because they are very spongy and no grip)
3) Continental ContiSportContact 5 ContiSeal
4) Pirelli Scorpion Winter
3) Pirelli P Zero PZ4 (current)

The SQ has 48K miles on the clock but these summer rubbers really DON'T last. I do tire rotations with proper alignment on time. I just wish there are more choices on the 21" with higher treadwear rating

No personal experience but have read several comments on this form from people who switched to 265/40 21's with no ill effects or spacer modifications to get a bigger choice in tires. Some went with A/S tires with higher wear index numbers. I am likely to go in that when I need new tires.

Another thread was saying no need to rotate. Just got my 14 SQ5 a few months ago. Had 19,500 miles and had the 21 Pirelli's but had a 2016 date so not org.

Only have 24K miles on mine and plenty of tread left. Running on 20s. Steve

If my memory serves me right, the SQ is 40/60 rear bias AWD. I do see that the rears wear out faster than the front.

Original tires..... Specifically ordered 20"s to avoid what you have gone through.

Well, the SQ5 is a nearly 4500 lbs tank and if you drive it somewhat sporty occasionally, you pretty much gonna eat tires for breakfast. The 21" P Zero has a thread wear rating of 300, but the PZ4 that you are running now only has 220, so that's gonna shorten the life of your current set even more.

One set.
Lol. I know, not what you maybe expected to hear.
We bought new in Aug 2013. (Glacier just like yours. )
Also dedicated winters, rotating when switching for the seasons. No alignment ever. (no bad wear issues or pulling of any kind...if it ain't broke don't fix it...you know what I mean...)

1) Dunlop SportMaxx GT (from factory) 25k miles to just before the treadbars.
2) Continental CrossContact Winter (235/55-19) 13k miles 7/32" total tread depth left.
3) Was also looking for more choice on 21" but when the stock Dunlop SportMaxx GT appeared on sale on Tirerack I just went for them. 25k miles is within my realistic expectations for summer tires on a 4600lb AWD SUV and comparable to my experiences over the past 17 years.
Also at 48k total vehicle miles. So I suspect you either drive very different from me or the Pirelli's aren't doing you any favors.

Now, when this current set wears out...if I don't move onto a new vehicle... I will surely look into 265/40-21's as well as there is definitely more selection there.

Yeah, the Pirellis are a fairly soft sticky compound. They stick like hell if driven hard, but that comes at the cost of short thread life. Just for comparison. On my RS5, at several hundred pounds lighter than the Q and with regular canyon carving, I got about 12,000 miles out of a set. No winter/summer setup required here, so basically I need new shoes once a year. I'm running the Michelin PSS now after four sets of P Zeros in 4 years. Will see how much longer they last.

I only have 9000km on my SQ5 with 21" Dunlops, they'll probably be good for 2 summers. Not great, but expected for 240 treadwear...

I've been doing some research, and I see Michelin Latitude Sport 3 in 255/40R21 listed in stores in Europe, but not yet in North America? (I know people were putting 265/40R21 instead, but I'd rather stay stock size) Hopefully these are available here when I'm due for new summer tires.
