Default 2014 Q5 3.0T Spongy Brakes???

So long story short, my wife traded in her 2011 Q for a new 2014 Q5 3.0T. LOVE the car with one exception.... The brakes feel spongy as hell.... as in like tons of travel before you get some brake action and it is maddening!

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal for a 2014? is something off? This car is brand new and was ordered and shipped with 15miles on it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

2013 3.0T. No spongy brakes here. Awesome brakes actually.

Give it a little bit of time. I remember thinking that the brakes on my new 2014 were not very good. I think the breaking action improved greatly after we put a few hundred miles on the car. Now I am happy with breaking performance. Good luck.

I understand your feeling. I think it is something that you have to get used to (my wife does not complain). Since the Q5 is my wife's car, I notice the long travel when I do drive it. When I get back in my truck, I nearly throw myself through the windshield .

Doesn't seem to hinder breaking performance though.

Same with my 2014 2.0T. It brakes just fine, it's just the pedal has a lot of travel before anything happens. Same actually with the throttle, it has too much dead travel at the top. I assume these are adjustable.

Yup! Same issue, spongy brakes, wife doesn’t notice but I did. First time back to the dealer they said "same as the others they had on the lot" I won’t get into the details of that conversation but I will not go there again.
I brought it to another dealer, they bleed the brakes, was nice and firm for a while now its reverting back to spongy again, it’s going back in again next week.. Seems to be common problem!

Perhaps try bedding the brakes. I did that when I got my new 2013 Q5.

I remember a review mentioning there was a lot of travel with the brakes. I don't remember which one. So your not the only one.

My 2014 Q5 has very spongy brakes... Maybe it's because i'm used the brakes in my B8 S4, but they still feel weak IMO. Will definitely be changing the pads to see if anything changes.
