Default Just bought a New Q5 - brake rotor questions

Hi all,

Thanks for taking time to read this. I have been a long time lurker and thought I should post as soon as I got my first Audi.

My wife and I just took delivery on our car this past Saturday and its a beautiful car. We bought a 2015 Audi Q5. We put the deposit and negotiated price on Tuesday 11/25 and took delivery 11/29. The dealer had to get our car from another dealer since he did not have that color (Scuba Blue).

I have a question though: My wife is the primary driver on the car and one of her co workers noticed grooves on the rotors on all 4 tires. I know this is not normal - especially not for a new car. Is it really possible that Audi put defective rotors on a new car? What can I do about this?

I will definitely have my mechanic take a look but its just incomprehensible to believe that a brand new car would have defective rotors.

Thoughts? Recommendation on action?

F

Some high-end rotors are "slotted" to improve braking performance -- might be the case here?

As somebody suggested pics please.

Also, how many miles on the car?

It is possible that the pads don't cover to the edge of the rotor and what you see is some rust, which might look like grooves. In any case, your dealer should be bending over backwards to make things right, especially if you haven't done the survey yet.

Hi All,

Thanks for the quick responses... I am not an expert with the cars so do not know if the rotors are slotted or not - though, did some quick research online the slotted rotors do not look like these...

Also, posting some pics here which may help - I think this is how they normally look but just wanted to be sure...

I will get it checked with my mechanic and if the rotors are really grooved, I am taking the car back to get them changed as you mentioned - I have not done the survey yet so hopefully the dealer will make it right if there is anything wrong with the brakes...

Miles - had 37 miles (dealer had to get the car from elsewhere since he didnt have it in stock) and currently has around 130 miles on it.

Thanks All, take a look at the pics and let me know.

Best,

F

agreed. Brake pads 'bed in' to the rotor..so light ridges like you see are normal.
