Key Battery Needs Charging?

Donny-
Your experience with the fob battery is the same as mine. Actually, my fob had decided to hide itself and I ran out of patience looking for it, so I grabbed the spare, which may have been used 4? 6? times in four years. It has been kept in a BandAid box the rest of the time, so it can't be queried by thieves, and there's no activity. But, it was stone cold dead. Apparently these fobs drain energy from the battery whether they are being used or not. "Coin" cell batteries like this should have a 10-year shelf life, unless they're very old stock or very poor brand.
"Key Battery Needs Recharging" is a sad hoax, these fobs do not contain any means of recharging, and the battery actually could explode if someone attempted to recharge it. But my salesman also said to use the keyway in the dashboard--because it would keep the fob charged. Oh, such great technological prowess! (sigh)
