Correct, and that's the engine's most endearing trait.

It's a shame that this trait is going away with the new turbo 3.0T...

On the upside, at least the engine's name will finally make sense!

Wonder if the 14-17SQ's with a supercharger are more valuable now. haha!

Any notable difference in supercharger vs turbocharger cost?

My '14 SQ5 (supercharged) gets about 26 mpg on the highway...if I keep it around 65 mph!
Locally, around town, it gets about 15-17 mpg.

Not too bad for an amped up SUV.

It's all about efficiency. The biggest disadvantage of a supercharger is that it sucks engine power to produce engine power. A turbo charger is more efficient, because it harnesses energy that otherwise escapes into the environment, instead of sucking engine power.

Lag is probably not the right term. The 3.0T is not as free revving and responsive as a naturally aspirated engine due to the parasitic drag from the supercharger.

Had a 08 G35 which was naturally aspirated. Now with the SQ5 I can't tell it has a SC. Like the G, it just gets up and goes.

Little trivia:-

Audi went for the fake exhaust tips because customers complained that the tips turned black... lol!

A lot of my Audi peeps are not happy with the new models, e.g. on the S5 the lower side blades are bare plastic and scratch totally easy.

Another feature is that the ECU can be read out for speed steering angle, brake etc., may come in handy after an accident but it is like big brother watching in real time.

ECU parameter logging has been around at least since since Audi got serious a few years ago about revealing mods in order to apply a TD1 to offenders.

We went and looked at it and were not impressed at all.

We have a 2002 Superchared Mini Cooper S and a Super Charged SQ in the garage.

If what happened to Mini is any speculation, we are keeping the SQ for a while.

The new tech crap does not impress me and when we custom ordered the SQ, we specifically ordered it without nav and all the useless gadgets. 3 years, 10K miles later, still very happy with it.

PS: The exhaust tips are as shinny as day 1 if you have any idea how to maintain your car.
