"I'm using a 128 GB card in my 2013 Q5 with B&O"

That's the trick right there, apparently. The base radio isn't that capable.

Thanks!

I'm using (128GB Transcend SDXC Classs 10) in my Q5's B&O MMI at the moment and I also filled up a folder with 7200+ files and it played with no issues. It also read and loaded the directory very quickly.

FWIW, Microsoft pulled large-drive FAT32 format support out of Windows, I think with Windows7. There are free third-party utilities that can format the cards (and other devices) but Windows itself no longer will perform the format.

FWIW.

If you're a Windows user, SD Formatter can help...

https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/

I'm sure there are many other freebies out there that will do it, too.

We just picked up a 2015 Q5 with base radio. I loaded about 42 GB of audio on a 64 GB SD card formatted to FAT32. The radio was able to see and play all of the files. So the 32 GB limit certainly does not apply to our radio.

holy cow that's a lot of music

I have a sandisk extreme 64GB card, but not a lot of music on it yet

slightly off topic, but I had to do some manual tweaking using the terminal in osx to clean up track listings on the SDXC card

also, had to convert non DRM itunes files to MP3 for a non navi MMI to play the tracks.

I'm glad to see other owners pushing their SD boundaries

You can't push the obsolete SD boundary, that's only 2GB.
SDHC, SDXC, ah, that's the same mistake Audi makes.(G)

"Only" 2GB. rofl, not so long ago you needed to be a government with a supercomputer to own that much memory!

I've been using 2 x 64GB cards both formatted with exFAT in my 2015 A6 Allroad with BOSE and the Tech Pack Advanced, without any issues. It's been playing both FLAC and MP3 files fine.

I too needed more space as I have 620GB of music made up of 25,000 tracks. I tried a 256GB fast SSD formatted as NTFS in a USB case plugged into the left side USB port in the central armrest. It seemed to work fine, all the indexing worked and I could play the tracts fine, however when I scrolled down I couldn't get past "Knopfler, Mark" which was about 94GB and 9,886 files in 1110 folders.

Is there a hard limit in the total amount of files the MMI will see?

What my tests do show is that FLAC files and exFAT and NTFS file systems seem to work in the 2015 UK MMI.

I've given up with the iPhone as the MMI doesn't support the "Album Artist" metadata, which really messes things up with various artists or albums with guests (E.G. Aerosmith showing as Aerosmith/RUN DMC) A little disappointed after the cost of the Tech Pack Advanced that the iOS support is poor and there is no upgrade to the Apple CarPlay, but that's another story.
