Default anyone had oil separator issues?

I had the following issue with 2012 q5 at 45k miles, this has be gotten worried as the warranty is running out and Im wondering if I should keep it.

we do all maintenance on time, only use shell premium gas

issue was:
it made squeaking noise on start up and a yellow light was on...dealer states: pressure regulating valve, leak perform guided fault. fault recorded for lean fuel mixture. remove and replace oil separator. clear fault memory test drive.

is this a common problem at 45k? would you consider this as a one off scenario or a precursor to other problems down the road?

Oil separator??

I've never met one unless it was on a boat. What's it do in the Q5?

I was with you till I saw the receipt... Had a pair of Raycors on my 6-71TI's. Looks like it is part of the PVC to separate out oil vapor from the PVC to minimize carbon.

Would it be an oil pressure relief valve? I had one on a Porsche 924S. I was told they rarely fail. Mine did. Oil pressure was nil on start up unless I was parked facing down a slope. I replaced it and the problem went away.

carfan, not sure with Audi (someone can chime in), but with other makes I've owned out of warranty, the repaired part carried its own manufacturer warranty for at least 12 months/12,000 miles. Would push you out to 57,000 mi (for that issue at least). Again, depends on what Audi provides for a repair warranty...

Oil separators in the PVC breathers...and a tech show doesn't know how to spell "separator".

See y'all next year at the Barrett-Jackson auctions. Where there's a number of fine cars that have hundreds of fewer parts that can fail in exotic ways on them.

Default Oil Separator

I just got off the phone with the dealer, no driving issues or noise but the "Check Engine" light came on this weekend. So we dropped our 2012 A6 with 70k miles at the dealer who after a few hours called to explain that the diagnosis was a flawed "oil Separator", the bill will be $1,600! Ouch, should have bought the extended warranty. Get yours fixed before the warranty runs out!

yikes 1600 is so expensive. I'll be honest, ever since my issue, I've lost confidence in the car and thinking if I want to keep it out of warranty. It has the CPO warranty on it, but the list of exclusion makes one dizzy reading through it.

these are great cars, but small issues cost so much to fix and are a hassle during the work week to fix.
