MPG from a new Audi Q5?

What are you getting in terms of MPG on your Q5?

mwaarna 03-22-2016 06:54 AM

Check Fuelly.

I track every fill up.

2.0 or 3.0 or TDI or SQ5?

need2buyaudi 03-22-2016 07:04 AM

2.0 T.

need2buyaudi 03-22-2016 07:05 AM

@mwarnaa , Man your pics are gorgeous!

Don Keener 03-22-2016 07:21 AM

I average 28.5 MPG on my '15 TDI.

Coolieman1220 03-22-2016 07:38 AM

as a past owner of a 2.0t and now a TDI, my driving habits have not changed. The only data that can change here is that I never towed with the 2.0t but do with the TDI. And my towing mileage with the TDI is better than my combined average with the 2.0t

2.0t Average of 20.5 mpg best of 24.3mpg Audi (Audi Q5) | Fuelly

3.0 TDI Average of 27.1, best of 32.4 Audi Q5 3.0 TDi (Audi Q5) | Fuelly

The data speaks for itself. Had a 3.2 also and that average was like 19mpg combined with a best of around 26-27.

This last tank I got 16.9 but that was mostly SF City Traffic.

But I usually get 18-20 with Combo sf and bay area highway traffic

3.0T here. Last tank this morning was 22.3 (calculated, not MMI). I hit a low this winter of 20.2 when it was below zero for ~3 straight days. I've gotten full tank best MPG of 28 on a mostly highway, no A/C week last fall, but that's a rarity.

Generally I see 21.5-23.

ex-quattro PETE 03-22-2016 09:28 AM

Our 3.0T averages 16-17 mpg. Mostly short tripping though, which kills MPG as the engine constantly runs below optimal operating temp.

Where do you live? Metro, suburban, rural? Driving style? All factors effecting mpg's especially with the 2.0t.

teatime 03-22-2016 11:52 AM

My 2016 Q5 TDI Prestige has average mpg of 22.6.(used fuelly to track) It is 80% city and 20% hwy with spirited driving and pushing it as much as possible :)
However if I don't drive like mad max and drive conservatively I get 25-26 (same 80% city/20% hwy). Need to see how long distance cruise mileage is. Service guy says someone got around 40 mpg(too good to be true) on a 4000 mile cross country cruise!

I never got more than 20 mpg in my 2014 Q5 2.0T during the 10000 miles that I drove. 80% city, 20% hwy

Thanks. Glad you liked the pictures. It was one of my first trips with the car to Key West. Still loving the Q5!

Yeah, seriously, those are some beautiful shots. I wish I was still living in FL.

Loaner 2016 2.0T we had in SF Bay Area with several thousand miles on the clock said just over 20MPG. Trip computer had never been cleared, which I always try to look for as a real world survey case across a cross section of drivers in an area. Not any surprise to me as soon as the congestion type factor goes up, even for 2.0T smallest motor.

It depends. anywhere from 18-25mpg depending on temperature, driving patterns. If I went 70mph on the freeway it would probably get around 26-28mpg. But I suaully driv 5-10mph over so 75-80 and since it's a SUV, not a sedan, economy drops off quick with wind drag.

Remember, the is a 4000lb vehcile. You can't cheat the laws of physics, so without energy recovery (hybrid), you'll have a lot of diversity. With small trips in winter or summer and lots of idling, it could drop to 10-13mpg easy.

With a tailwind and moderate traffic giving you a draft on the freeway, you could get 30-32 mpg I'd estimate, maybe approach 35mpg in some conditions.

My economy did seem to drop just a little after my piston ring change, which isn't surprising. Engine is just a little tighter I suspect.

In the end, to be honest, it's a German luxury crossover that sucks premium fuel, does mileage really matter when depreciation over 5 years, depending on mileage could be almost $30k on this car.

Based on just three posts of yours today, I think you should switch to a Honda ASAP!

motoguy128 03-24-2016 07:42 AM

I likely will in a few years. I'm stuck with what I have now. But after many trips to the dealer thats a 2 hour round trip, and $1000 or so out of pocket, I'm finally ahead of the curve a little so I'll keep it for a few years. Great car, but Audi's response to addressing their design mistakes has been frustrating.

I think the bigger issue with the 2.0t is boosting at speed. The only way to get decent highway mileage out of it is to drive at like 65mph. If you tried to go faster, the engine would constantly boost and thus consume a lot more fuel. Although drag is a big factor too since it is an exponential curve it gets worst at speeds over 75-80mph

I hated my 2.0t and the fact that in auto it would constantly downshift instead of just making more boost and putting that torque to work...

8.9 L / 100 km ... tracked every liter and KM since day 1. 2.0 T

26.5 MPG for the americans

seakayaker7 03-27-2016 12:07 PM

I've had my 2015 Q5 3.0T for 16 months, have driven 12,484 miles and added 554.36 gallons. 60% highway/40% town. 22.52mpg. Not bad considering my A4 with 193,000 miles still averages 25mpg.
