New X3s are selling like hot cakes

The title of this thread is kind of misleading. How can a vehicle that havent hit the showroom yet sell like hotcake. If the new X3 stay in high demand after 3 years in production like the Q5, then I would say its selling like hotcake.

It happens a lot on new body cars. Some buyers put deposits on 2 or 3 cars at the same time. They're stringing people along knowing there going to back out of some of them.
Sales people are gullable at times and want a deal, and will take a deposit on anything.
That's a totally different scenario than putting a deposit on a car on the lot, and you're just waiting for financing or to get a check from your bank. Or your wife has to come in and co-sign the paperwork.
Or special ordering a car you've already driven and just want your color and options.
I'm just refering to the people that love putting things on "hold" while they shop 5 other cars at the same time.

How is this considered serious if at anytime you can still back out for whatever reason?
Have you ever put down a deposit? I've never heard of putting a deposit down on a car that is sitting on a lot ready for sale. You either buy it then or you're sol if someone comes in and takes it while you screw around. The only deposits I've ever done is ordering a car, or if I want a specific car and they can get it from another dealer they'll take a deposit to initiate the trade so they know I'm serious.

Guess they feel if you put your money where your mouth is you might actually be serious about buying the car. Still doesn't mean you can't get your money back.

Coming from 4 consecutive bimmers (Z3-330i-330ci- and now E89 Z4) and being a big bimmer fan, I bought a Q5... Because I find the X3, old or new, just ugly... The interior feels cheap. I love the motorization but one cannot argue with the torque and fuel economy of the 2.0TFSI. Who wants an SUV that drives and handles like a BMW anyway? Well, BMW makes amazing handling sports cars. SUVs? not so much. They lose a bit of the BMW soul. I even considered the upcoming X1 but decided against it once I saw the strange vertical nostril facia.

hungry.
mmmmm... hotcakes... yummy!
Well, thanks for telling us Audi folks that a BMW is selling like a breakfast item. Toyotas are selling like hotdogs at a baseball game and Volvos like jeans at the Gap. Q5's are selling like hookers when the fleet arrives at port. Priuses are selling like, well boring, no personality, Toyotas... and that is typical.
selling like toilet paper at a chilli cookoff
selling like crack on North Avenue and Charles St at 3am.
selling like ...well, who cares.
