OBD-II P0171 Code for 2009 Q5 3.2
Hi forum,
I have a question, I have a 2009 Q5 3.2, and I have a OBD-II code, P0171, I know it means the oxygen sensor in bank 1 has detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). I was told by my Audi dealer, that it is just a sensor, and it needs to be replaced. However they want to charge me $300 to do so.
Does anyone know if this is too hard to fix yourself, and if it can be done by yourself, what is the part number that I need to order to fix it? Any advice will be GREATLY appreciated,Thanks.

Are you sure that's Oxygen Sensor, P0171 fault says that this Mass Air Flow Sensor
In motors 3.2 is part of the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure)

Its a pretty easy task to do at home. Just requires taking a few parts of the air intake system off. I haven't cleaned my Q5's yet, but my yukon takes me all of 5 mins to get everything off, couple mins to clean it and 5 min or so to put it all back together again.

I get this code on my Yukon after I have a long weekend of wheeling in dusty conditions. For me it is normally just the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. I just take mine out, and clean it off with MAF cleaner. You can pick up MAF sensor cleaner at any auto parts store. Once i spray it down and put it back in, the code normally doesn't pop back up.

There is no separate MAF sensor, but was part of a system throttle valve adapter (MAP)

Hi thanks for the response, my Audi dealer, when I email them about it, replied with this "Back in OCT we diagnosed a faulty cam position sensor (part # 07L-905-163-A) which is code P0365. That could set another fault I believe but would have to check to know."....
I wanted to order it from AudiUSAParts.com and install it myself, if it is not that much trouble, if it is, then I'll pay the $300-ish for them to do it, but I don't know.

Because you do not know what the exact problem is better that you go to dealers
Good luck

Hi Spijun, Well I took it to the dealer and what they had on file was that the camshaft sensor needed replaced, I have my own OBD-II reader and when I hooked it up myself, the engine code that came back was the P0171. I am going to go with what my dealer said. He said that that the camshaft sensor could be the reason for the other engine codes.
